MLB All-Star Weekend!
Started a little early for me~
Let me explain you a thing. The Mets, as you know if you pay attention to my posts -- ??? -- are hosting the MLB All-Star Game this year and that's a Very Big Deal. One of the Mets' icons is a giant apple that pops up in the outfield any time a Met hits a home run at Citi Field. Here's the old one that used to sit at Shea, now on a small pedestal outside of Citi. You're probably wondering what one has to do with the other (other than "the Mets").
There's a smaller (but still pretty big) apple statue at Citi Field that's all like "ALL-STAR GAME!" which is cute, because apples are our thing and we're hosting the ASG. And there's an apple like the one at Citi Field except it's all "METS!" outside the SNY booth because that's the network that broadcasts most of the Mets' games. What never occurred to me was that there would be an apple for every other team and then some (every team is represented by at least one player in the ASG). I was informed of this last night, and decided to go on a scavenger hunt to find them: all thirty-five. TL;DR - I got twenty-seven (though I visited twenty-nine locations), and I'll try to pick up the spare tomorrow. I'll post pictures but I'm so exhausted. I must have walked about 4 miles or more (after more than six on Saturday).
As for the rest of the weekend, oh man, I'm so excited because there's shit to do every day through Tuesday. Tomorrow, I've got tickets for Fan Fest, which is basically a "HEY DO YOU LIKE BASEBALL" thing at the Javits Center. Maybe I'll get some cool autographs and see lots of neat stuff. And if I have another spare moment this week, I can go back for a second dose (with different people to sign stuff). Saturday, I'm doing a 1.5-mile (2.5k) run for charity. I didn't raise any money, but I think part of the reg fee will go towards more Hurricane Sandy aid. Sunday -- and this is where it starts to get good -- is the Futures Game and Celebrity Softball at Citi Field. They're exactly what they sound like, with the Futures Game being all minor-league prospects, and Celebrity Softball being former players and some actors and shit playing softball.
Monday is the HOME RUN DERBY. I absolutely cannot WAIT to see all those baseballs fly out of Citi Field. I don't have any chance of catching one but that's because I'm like right behind home plate (up in the 500s, of course) so, wheeeee. Tuesday is the All-Star Game itself. I can't explain to you how incredible this is. I'm going to be so drained and so broke but it'll all be sooooooo worth it!
