MERMAIDS AND HOCKEY

I like how I've had a pretty awesome weekend and it's only Friday.

Yesterday after work, I went down to The Bell House in Park Slope with Es and Amanda for a The Little Mermaid sing-along. It was pretty epic. Five bucks to get in (big deal), and there were theme drinks (I wound up with some fruity shit I didn't order but oh well) and trivia and contests, lots of fun. The sing-along itself was amazing, and even though it's been years since I've acted it out, I still knew about half of it, and Amanda was pretty amused by my acting. XD After the movie, we stuck around a little while for some '90s music sing-along, but we got going after a little while. Es was hungry and the one drink she had got to her (of course).

We headed back to her apartment, because she had to leave with her mom and her brother in the morning so it was just easier, and I didn't want either of us to go alone, of course. We pretty much changed and crashed immediately; it was a long day.

Eventually I got up, dressed, and went home. I nearly missed my stop on the 4, but I made it and then I missed the bus home (stupid, stupid people who don't know how to walk up stairs properly. My transfer nearly ran out, augh). But I took a glorious shower, and finally got a chance to re-use this Dubinsky jersey I've had hanging in my closet for two months. :D Lynda came by within a couple of hours, I handed off my Cally shirt and we were on our way.

I said I wanted seven goals. I said I wanted the lamps to stay lit.

We went early because she had gotten the tickets through some Coca-Cola promotion? Anyway, so we were part of a private event and could have skated on the ice if we had our own skates. But it was still a joy to watch and we got some awesome pictures. They raffled two autographed jerseys (Drury and Del Zotto. Obvs we didn't win), and then they fed and watered us. It was pretty awesome. When we were back at our seats, I decided to make a trip to the team store and because it was another Blueshirt night, all apparel (but not jerseys) was 50% off. Oh, hello $12 shirt. :D

When the game started, Prust and Moen, well. Y'know.

Rangers drew first blood, scoring at 5:28 (watch the video after the Prust/Moen fight), but the Canadiens -- oh, lulz, they were playing Montreal. This totally wasn't an important game or anything -- answered quickly. The Rangers went ahead again a few minutes later, but the real fun was as the period was winding down. The Rangers scored three times in less than 70 seconds: Callahan (yay!), Gaborik, and Boyle (watch the video after Anisimov's goal). They celebration song didn't even get a chance to finish before it had to play again. It was amazing (well, it was a bit nervewracking for Callahan's goal because they decided to review it and it took forever).

During intermission, I went to get something to drink, and two guys were outside of the concession stand, offering their phones to Montreal fans, and being supremely (read: "hilariously") obnoxious:

"Hey, do you know what adds to six?"
"Six and zero?"
"Yeah, but also five and one!"
"FIVE AND ONE!"

and suchwise.

But the second period was very mediocre. The second Canadien goal took some of the fight out of the crowd, and the Rangers' fail!power play did little to help that. But we were still up a field goal, so that was cool. :D Second ended on a Callahan penalty, though, and Montreal was about to capitalize less than a minute into the third (I texted Theresa "Your little bitch Gionta just scored on my fucking team!" to which she replied "HI BRIAN ILU~"). Hmmm, suddenly not so good. And there were several close calls to boot.

The Rangers needed a goal to put some life back into the crowd -- people were leaving with fifteen minutes left to play. That's like leaving in the sixth inning, wtf -- and they finally got it on the power play late in the third off of Propsal's stick. Thank goodness. There was still plenty of time to get my seventh goal, but it wasn't mean to be, and the final was 6-3. But a win over 6th place Montreal? I'll take it!

In the end, lots of fun, and I'm glad I got to end the season on a high note. :D

Edit: This isn't going under the cut, though. Y'know the P.S. 22 Chorus? They were recently at the Academy Awards? Yeah. That's who sang our anthems. O Canada was a little straightforward, they started harmonizing towards the end, but HOLY SHIT that solo in The Star-Spangled Banner (2:50). SING IT, GIRL! I'm going to be perfectly honest with you: I teared up. I've never heard that song so beautifully and purely delivered and it fucking moved me (and did you hear how quiet it got?!). So, Staten Island, I guess you've got something good going for you after all! ♥

Tomorrow is fabric shopping/reference hunting/bus-ticket-buying with Es. Yay.
