Okay, so, sidewalks, right?
What am I supposed to do in places that don't have them? Where am I meant to walk? I asked Alex once and our conversation went something like this:
V: WTF HOW DO
A: You just walk in the street.
V: No, I've seen people drive out here. I'm good for walking in the street, thanks.
A: You see that stripe? That's the walking lane.
V: I think I'd feel much more comfortable with at least three feet (1 m) between me and traffic, and it has to have that strip with space for trees and stuff. *pause* If only there were a side part that I could walk on! I bet it'd even have a special name, too, like "travelpath" or something.
In all seriousness, though, walking in the street is dangerous, and walking on someone's lawn is rude. WHAT IS THE PROTOCOL HERE?!
