I voted for YOUR MOM.
Actually, no, I voted for mine. There's a reason!
I was all set to ignore my supposed duty (like every other good American!) and not vote. But my mother YELLED at me this morning when I told her that it didn't matter what I did, because New York is blue a thousand times over. She seemed pretty upset, so I changed my mind, and I decided I was going to vote, and I did. For her. :D I don't understand what her problem is; I mean, if she wins, she can always respectfully decline. And I'm kind of saddened that she refuses my support. You're so mean, Mommy! T^T I'm pretty sure Sarah Palin would take HER daughter's vote, if she were old enough to do so!
I think my mother's pretty upset with me right now. But I wonder: is it better to blindly vote along party lines -- like Mom told me she did -- or to vote for someone who I know personally, and know where they stand with issues (even if I don't agree with all of them, but that's ANY candidate). I'd've voted for myself, since I agree with everything I stand for, but I'm not thirty-five yet, so I actually don't have a chance. My mother, however slim, now does. :D Democracy is wonderful!
I can't wait until Senator Obama wins the state, though, just so I can tell my mother my favorite words: I. Told. You. So. I'm sorry, I just can't take Presidential elections seriously. The Electoral College isn't necessary anymore. :/
And check it out, I even had problems voting. I went into the booth and I didn't flip the lever on the monstrous machines that we have, so the woman who was standing outside peeked in and asked if I needed help. No, I was just reading Prop 1, and technically, I hadn't started voting yet, so that was cool. But once I did start, I was taking a long time, scribbling down what the hell else we were voting for (not that it mattered, since it was a bunch of crap that was all "Choose one!" and there was only one person running), and reading the summary of Prop 1 very slowly, so I knew what I was voting for (or against). The woman peeked in again and asked if I needed help!
I understand her intentions were pure, but that's really NOT cool, and while I felt like a major asshole tattling on her, it would have been wrong of me not to. She looked in while I was voting. That is WRONG. In the end, I'd just voted on Prop 1 and my mom. All those other HEY I'M THE ONLY ONE RUNNING things can do without my vote; I'm sure everyone votes for him or herself, so no help needed on my end.
Even stranger, when I did complain about the OLD WOMAN (Goddesses, I'm an asshole), and she got scolded (ASSHOLE), the coordinator-lady said that if people needed help, then two assistants were to go in the booth with the person: one Republican, one Democrat. ... What if I'm neither? What if my Libertarian self (not that I'm Libertarian; I'm actually unaffiliated) felt uncomfortable because my party wasn't represented by these "helpers"? Clayton, help! XD
...At least I didn't have to wait on line. There was only one person in front of me when I got to the polling place, so this year's wait wasn't any worse than past years'. In fact, it was much better than some!
Work is forever stupid, and so I hope everyone's Election Day (or regular ol' Tuesday) was better than mine!
