Chinese New Year!!!!
Feb. 13th, 2005 11:25 pmToo. Much. Fun.
For starters, I'm feeling tons better. Woke up hacking this morning, but it's seriously disappeared, and I'm only coughing a little. Pulse is back to normal. Little to no chest pain.
As for the parade and stuff....
"[Those who didn't make it] missed a bit of fun. Well, aside from Sze's and my attempts to find his six friends somewhere across Canal St. that took THREE HOURS. The human traffic was unbelieveable, not to mention at Mott St. (a major street), you could either cross Canal in only one direction or not at all. You had to go up or down a block to where the police barricades weren't and cross there. It was crazy. We got to watch a lot of the parade in the meantime, and we took lots of pictures.
"(I found my marching band, almost as soon as they got there. I missed them a lot, and several people were happy to see me. They could look and sound a lot better, though... ;-; )
"We went to a restaurant on Canal St. and managed to catch the end of Dim Sum, so we stuffed our faces, and the entire meal (including the extra dishes we ordered), came out to only eight bucks a person. We hopped on the subway, after passing a couple of street vendors, and went to Flushing (in Queens).
"The train ride was a really speedy hour (and we didn't accidentally go into Brooklyn this time! XD), since we had a great conversation along the way. We went to Flushing Mall. I had no idea the place existed, because only a few years ago, that part of Flushing was old run down buildings and a generally not-nice area. Now, there are lots of stores and junk, and, well, Flushing Mall. It's not big, it's not spectacular, but they've got GREAT food. WONDERFUL stuff. Four-dollar noodles and $2.50-bubble teas (I had two; the taro teas are SO. GOOD). I don't remember half of what I ate (I don't know what half I ate WAS), but it was all delicious.
"We walked around a little bit more, to the bakery down the street, bought some more food -- we honestly didn't stop eating -- and by then it was after eight, so everyone else had to get back to Chinatown (where they probably wandered around a little bit more) to catch the 10:00 bus. Me? I came back home.
"Good food, good friends, good times. It was fun. Can't wait for the next round! ^_^"
Pictures will come shortly. And I think I'm going to take a trip down to Philly next month on the lovely Chinatown bus!!
