Cut. )

Hopefully I can get all the trim I need to finish this thing up (!!!) sometime in the next week. I plan gettin' mah hurr did again tomorrow -- so I don't have to scramble for the wedding next week -- and then running into the city, only to come back home and catch up with the Long Islanders. I'm going to be EXHAUSTED. Night!

Progress!

As it's technically Monday, I can post a progress photo. And what a photo!

Shut up, Venus, no one cares about baseball cosplay! )

So that's two of my Otakon cosplays nearly finished. *thumbs up*
venusplz: (Default)
Went back in my dad's closet looking for suit jackets, and have determined that the things are indeed held together by magic. I took a look at the hem of a jacket with a vent in it -- mine will have two -- and found a blind hem. Wait, no, two blind hems (how is that possible?!). They were done in dark thread on a lightish suit and I don't see the pinpricks of dark thread anywhere, with no hint of how the thing is closed up. Sorcery, I say!

Took a closer look at the vent itself, and I see that I did the lining wrong. "If I rip it out part way and then attach it... and then I can turn it inside-out, sew... pop it back out... WAIT A SECOND! I think I've got it!"

And so I put it into practice on one side of the jacket (not both, just in case I screwed up), and it works. Perfectly. There's a small bit in the corner where I'll have to put in a blind hem (something else to learn, hohoho), but that's it. And, again, the pictures I took came out really crappy so I don't have any. But I'll be sure to take them on Friday in natural light. That takes care of the two outside bits. Almost done with the first, will get to the second as soon as I'm through.

As for the center, I'm not quite sure. I'll work on the outsides first and then come in, but I think I've got an idea of what's going on, which is a huge weight off my shoulders, and a lot of my confidence back. I almost wish I had skill enough to enter craftsmanship competitions. |D In the meantime, celebratory cup of tea! Mmmm, orange spice.

As for work.... )

I'm very glad I get paid tomorrow, but unfortunately, I think it's time to start looking for another job. That makes me a very deep kind of sad. ;A; BUT MY JACKET!

Happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] fishwindows!

Edit, 5:09 AM - I'm a witch, apparently, because I just did magic. Save the buttons (which I haven't bought yet) and the buttonholes, the jacket is done! Everything is beautiful and it fits like a dream! I'd be more excited if I weren't exhausted, though.... So I just took a shower and now I'm going to take a two-hour nap before getting ready for work.

HURR DURR it'll all be worth it when I'm not frantically sewing in the car on the way to Katsu ... or in the hotel room at six in the morning. LOL 2008

Today.

Work is dumb. 9_9 )

Anyway, happier things. I made a bit of progress on the jacket tonight. I figured out the sleeves, thanks to stealing one of Dad's suit jackets and studying it, and they look awesome (the pictures I took don't do it justice). I think I have to steal another one to get the idea of this pattern right, because they're not quite the same, or I could play around with it, I don't know. But I'm feeling a bit sleepy now so I should at least return the ironing board.... I need to finish that list of things I need for my cosplays so I'm not running around like mad next week. (Extra city!trip on Friday?)

Oh, and my back feels much better today than yesterday. Still a bit sore, but I should be right as rain by the weekend.

I just might be able to pull it off! And for cheapsies! )

Sexy.

Is the word that I would use to describe my jacket. I also got new lightbulbs, so not only can I see everything, but it's like fucking daytime in here. IT'S AWESOME. But yeah, the jacket is sexy.

Here, have some (grainy, poorly-lit) progress shots. Not cheating because it's still Monday in, uh, Hawaii. )

So yeah, time for three hours of sleep. XD Happy February!

P.S. No car yet for Es. D: They were bums and didn't have it ready today; she can't pick it up any sooner than Friday morning. BOO.
venusplz: (Default)
So I can, y'know, collapse. Why did I volunteer to a double?!

At least I got a little bit of work done. Not much at all, but my jacket now has half-sides (sewn only on one edge; the other's pinned so it can stay on a hanger) and attached pockets. TA-DA. And it's not like you can see anything from this ugly photo anyway (I miss my camera).

Friday, I'll try to figure out how to do the collar, and, with luck, get that out of the way quickly. Wish me luck, because I'll need it. Once that and the facing's done, though, smooth sailing: sleeves, shoulderpads, lining, finishing, then working out the rest of the costume. Yay~ P.S., Dear Hima-sensei, Please color fem!Canada so I don't have to make a decision. Even with help, I really suck at making decisions. Love, Venus.

Rangers kicked some Toronto ass, 7-0; four in the first within five minutes (naturally, I started watching the game at the start of the second). :D Gabby got a hat trick (and a fourth goal), and Lundqvist continues to rack up shutouts. They needed this win after dropping two to Montreal and those goddamn Flyers (and losing Dubinsky, who's got a stress fracture in his... foot? I don't remember what they said). Canucks, meanwhile, are still first out west, but have dropped to second in the league in favor of Philly, because those jerks've got more wins. It'd be nice if Vancouver would win their next game, because they've lost their last two. Both my teams play tomorrow at seven in their respective time zones: Rangers in Carolina, and Vancouver hosting San Jose. Hope I can catch the third period of that second game. |D Shut up, Venus.

Going to bed early tonight in the hope that I only need one soda tomorrow. :'(

Oh, thank goodness, something went right.

They were a really difficult pair of pants to do -- the instructions were flat-out wrong in a couple of spots -- but I figured it out and punched it through and, between yesterday and today -- er, Saturday and Sunday -- I've (mostly) finished England's trousers.

YAAAAAAAY!

They fit like a glove; it makes me wanna cry tears of joy. They're mostly finished because I need to add the button; do the hem; touch up the zipper, because my stitches strayed a little when I attached it -- I hate sewing upside-down; and take in the waist because the fabric is stretchy, so it goes over my hips! T^T all the extra at the waist doesn't need to be there. It'll take some time, and I'll probably have to redo more than just a couple of seams, but at this point, I don't care.

Squeeeeee~ I'm so excited! I just wish I understood what the hell to do with the collar, because then I'd be set! ... Also mostly. I still have the dress shirt and belts to do, then I have to buy a tie and boots. (Oh my gosh, the brass trim I got is so sexy because the color complements my shade of green so well! I can't wait to play the buttons and belts!) So... ^_^;; Maybe about 25-30% completed. But the pants make me feel really good about myself and my skill so maybe I won't quit cosplaying just yet. :D And maybe, maybe, this'll be done for NYAF and Hetalia Day. Fingers crossed, and pictures tomorrow.

Finished a cosplay, five months late. )
venusplz: (Default)
It's so SCARY! The thread snapped and there was this KA-THUNK and everything stopped and ... augh. I'm just very grateful it happened to happen at the end of what I was sewing. Let's have a moment of silence for this brave little bugger who trooped on from a metric asston of Hetalia shit to random stuff in between to most of Venusaur (it looks like a leg now, doesn't it?). Cheers, little guy, and may your replacement last more than five months. XD

That said, here's what I've got so far (oh, cell phone pictures. You're so dark. And if you're wondering, those petals are like 18" (45 cm) long. It's ENORMOUS). It looks okay, but those petals -- other than being HUUUUUUGE -- are only pinned on. I have no idea how to attach the whole shebang. My plan was to sew them to the bark texture and then just, what? Hot glue it? I think that's my best course of action; I certainly can't sew anything more.

After that's done (and I attach the leaves (cake) and figure out how to hang it off my back, hmmmm), I've got to do the ears on the headband. Should be relatively simple after this GIANT FLOWER wtf did I get myself into? I hope I have time for the vines, but it looks like I'll get a decent amount of sleep tonight! :D

(Oh fuck, I've gotta tame my bird's nest tonight. I hope I have enough conditioner left, but I have no idea what to do with my hair in the morning. |D;; this costume, man.)

Edit, 12:18 AM - LMAO. THIS IS SO BAD.

I measured. I swear I measured. Three times. And I attached the petals to the bark texture. And then when I put it on the trunk... two petals overlap and you can only see five. *dies of lol* And since it's glued, I can't really take it apart without destroying it right now? So, yeah. Failnusaur for tomorrow. But it's nearly done!

Edit, 4:19 AM - It's done! It's done, it's done, it's done!

Good thing, too, because I'm starting to get sleepy (I honestly don't know why I haven't conked out yet). Just gonna attach vines to the shoulder straps, clean up a bit, get my stuff together, then hit the hay for SEVEN HOURS of glorious sleep. So lucky it got pushed back, too. Go me!

Failnusaur )

Oh, and I had a really shitty commute this morning, the worst of it not being walking to work from 42nd and 6th in the downpour, and being covered in a not-so-fine layer of rain (also sweat, gross) by the time I got there. *blows hair out of face*

Bon anniversaire, Papa/brother-thing/stupid frog (VOTRE/TON RIRE EST SI BEAU~ (I think that's correct. God, it's been ages. D:))

(Also, guys, I'm bored and shit. Talk to me on AIM. ... Or let me know if you can't get to me.)
venusplz: (Default)
Ahem.

Those two pinks are not the same. You lied to me, dye box. You fucking lied. YOU WHORE. (It's really baby-fucking-pink. I could have gotten it more pink if I washed the fabric along with a new red towel.)

So, guys, help. Do I give up and work with what I have (and rip it out later in the hopes of finding better fabric), or can I get some super-dye somehow and turn this sumbitch fucking PINK like it should be (maybe the dye needs to be more concentrated? Twice the dye, half the water (i.e., four times as strong)? I'd rather that if I could, especially because the blue of my dress is pretty bold. Tomorrow's Wednesday. D: Thanks.

(ALSO GFDI AMERICAN LEAGUE. EDIT EDIT EDIT EDIT FUCKING EDIT FUCK YEAH NATIONAL LEAGUE WHAT THE FUCK AWESOMENESS DID I JUST MISS?! :D)

And it's like, well, shit! No Olympics, no World Cup, wtf do I watch when I'm doing nothing at work now?!

Yeah, I'm sorry, I'm American and I don't care all that much about soccer. :V I'm only backing Team USA for obvious reasons.

venusplz: (Default)
It's not done yet, but here's what I got so far: )

Philly's down 2-0. :D
venusplz: (Default)
First: check out the belt. :D (I got home rather late last night after meeting up with Michele -- partly to say hi and have bubble tea, partly to see if her belt fit, which it does, hurray -- so I didn't finish them until the train ride this morning.) You can see the snaps, but only if you look REEEEEEEEEEEALLY close. From more than, say, a yard away, it's not gonna be all that visible. Working on the elasticless (D:) hat now, shields and PACKING when I get home. Augh.

Second: I have a new ALttP challenge, and I'm wondering why I didn't think of it before: backwards. Since you HAVE to pick up heart containers at the end of a dungeon (consequently, the fewest number of hearts you can have at the end of the game is thirteen), a three-heart challenge is impossible. But getting to, say, Turtle Rock with a handful of hearts, green tunic (because that stupid dark floaty maze room NEVER FAILS to trip me up), and no half-magic sounds kinda scary. Were I not going to a con this weekend, you can bet that I'd be working on that game tonight. Screw you, OoT, and your Goron vase (another heart piece I HATE)! Screw you, MM, and your Great Bay! Screw you, FSA, and your easier-than-Rinoa-ness! (Seriously, seventy-two faeries? I never got that many extra lives in SMB3!)

ALttP is the best Zelda game ever. End of discussion. Ah, ah, no. I don't wanna hear it. Ah-- ah! No. Shut... up (brrrrrrrrrrrra desu! HAIL BRITTANIA!). Best. BEST. Totally doing it next week.

CON LINEUP: Laura's mom found Laura's Suki costume, so she and Abi will be Suki and Sokka on Friday, and I'll tag along as Toph (Toph having a beer just makes sense). Saturday is The Big Day (hope I can dance because my knee is still bothering me. OH HILARITY), and Sunday, I'll be running around as Haruhi. Not just ANY Haruhi, mind. My long hair demands that I be long-haired Haruhi, and so I have to split it up into SIX ponytails (or something). I've affectionately nicknamed her Spider-head Haruhi. I'm gonna look ridiculous. :D MAN I HOPE I FINISH LINK.

Lunch today: making fun of NBs is hilarious. [/old news]

Noel after her haircut.

She looks like a puppy again. ♥ She acts like it, too, even though she's a very old lady. Awwww, I love my dog. She does look silly, but it HURTS when she smacks you with her tail, as there's no longer any fur to cushion the blow. X_X

Shield progress ahoy! Worked on these until midnight last night, made some fair progress. They're due for a second coat of that weird red-brown tonight, and then I can do details. I'm going to cut many corners on the reverse, since no one's going to see it. ^_^;; They look pretty good, I think. (I like how you can see all the junk in my bedroom in the first shot: the meterstick, the scissors, design sketches (some to scale LOL), the bottle of water, the GameCube that was ON at the time, and the game box peeking out underneath the foamcore. WHAT. It was reference!) With luck, they'll be done before I get to bed tonight. Cross your fingers for me.

Shirt. It's pretty straightforward and boring. Swords. Also straightforward and boring, but as you can see, they required vast amounts of effort and toil, and it was a miracle I got them done before the day was through. Cuz, y'know. Marbles and a glue gun. That's complex stuff! Currently working on the belts, and they should also be done before I get to bed tonight; sewing on snaps doesn't take a spectacularly long time. Edit, 15:15 - Belts are nearly finished, but I can't do them until I get home. However, it's just gluing the buckle and sewing four snaps (total), so it's gonna take, like, half an hour.

Looks like tomorrow I'll just have the hat and tunic adjustments. :D

Still need help on costume #3: Forerunners are Friday/Sunday!Haruhi and Sokka. In all honesty, I'm leaning towards Haruhi. Opinions still welcome!
venusplz: (Default)
Yeah, I could have been sewing. )

Relm. )

ichiP!, we're doing MADAYADE. We need more adorable Berryz shit. (Look -- er, listen -- Momoko's voice got slightly deeper! I don't hate her as much anymore! XD)

Erica, I've got another twelve quarters for you, but I don't know what you have. Let me know!

And now, bed. Who knows? I might get enough sleep and NOT be late for work tomorrow! :O
