NHL All-Star Game rosters are out. I knew I was going to be down for Team Alfredsson from the go (my other option is Team Chara. Ew), and that was solidified when King Henrik was named Alternate Captain. Today, it's a no-brainer. Two of the three Rangers and all three of the Canucks selected are on Team Alfredsson* (also Jason Pominville), so even though we've got more Flyers than I would like (two, but anything more than zero is gross), this should be fun. :D Sunday~

*Hagelin's on the rookie team, Hodgson and Luke Adam went to Team Chara.

I got paid today! It was a little bit of a headache (literally) trying to figure out how much of the money went where from which account (6_9), and it would be so much easier if my bank would link savings accounts to credit accounts (I never use checking! That's where I keep my super-emergency money). I'll figure it out when I can. And because F was such a good girl and submitted my timesheets like she was supposed to (albeit, two weeks late), I'll e-mail her like I was supposed to (albeit, two weeks late. I'm nothing if not fair). I'm really glad I didn't have to go in that office today.

I'm 3/4 done with the SoT book. It's really not as good as the rest of the series. :( Mercifully, it'll be over soon.

I feel like I'm missing something, but this headache makes it hard to think.

So I've got some videos today. I should have done this months ago, but here, look at Vancouver stuff!

Rick Rypien tribute, pregame stuff, and a very quick run around Stanley Park (and Granville Island). )

There's also an LJ community all you Hetalia fags should help out with, especially if you're not* going to AnimeNEXT in June. My good ol' buddy [livejournal.com profile] courez wants to do a Family Feud-style panel at the con, and she's putting together survey questions, but she needs at least 50 (100 would be ideal, but she can settle for 50 if it gets rough) people to participate in various surveys.

[livejournal.com profile] heta_famfeud GO FORTH!

*It's a better idea if you're not going to be at AnimeNEXT (or at the panel but I promise it'll be fun) because you won't be anticipating survey questions (or answers), and it's that much more entertaining. I mean, you can even help if you're not a Hetalia fag (but since I don't know what the questions will be, I'm gonna guess it's probably better that you know a little something about the series).

In other news, even though I put in the request for ADwD this morning (as I'm more than halfway through AFfC; I'm seventh of seven), I decided last night that I'm too ASoIaFed out at the moment, and I should probably quit for a while. I've got another book I snatched from the library three weeks ago and haven't touched, so I gave it a go. I'm more than halfway through it now. Sure, it's an easy read with huge type and lots of space between the lines, but it's still a 500-odd page book. Not as great as the others in its series -- because the last one ended phenomenally, and was closure to everything -- but it's nice.

Let's hope I can keep this up and posting becomes a thing again. Unfortunately, it's not a tremendously happy post. :/

Has anyone else wondered... (U.S. politics) )

And now for the back page of The Daily Venus. )

I haven't been reading. I can't focus on the book, and I think it's because there seems to be more POV characters. I mean, there are new ones, instead of the same ones over again (well, some of the same ones), but they're making it difficult for me to keep it all straight. The nicknames really don't help; I was struggling halfway through ASoS, and I'm not yet halfway through AFfC. @_@ I think I might have to wait until after season two to reread the books, and maybe I can tackle ADwD after that, if I feel up to it. Very excited for that, though!

OH HEY KATSU IS IN A MONTH I should probably get ready for that, huh.

Lunchtime.

So I spotted some not-so-well-hidden racism goin' down on my Facebook feed, and I played stupid about it until someone actually said "Kwanzaa is just for black people" and I sprung. But willful ignorance ruled the day, even if I got someone obviously upset. So I wondered: I was bored and decided to play with some people, culminating in the ruffling of feathers. Did I just troll? It wasn't conscious, and I'm not sure I got sadistic pleasure from it, but it seems like trolling. Hmmm.

If you care for a transcript. Warning: it's Facebook. )

In other news, I got my skates today! They're still at the store because the guy who sharpens them isn't in until tomorrow or Thursday, so I figure I'll go back Friday and they'll be ready. I don't need them until next weekend anyway. And since I have such tiny feet, I got kid-size skates so I was able to save a few bucks, and they'll be worth the investment in four trips to The Pond. Merry Christmas, self!

The family is still here, though, so as of eighteen minutes ago, I lost my bet against myself. Seriously, though, this is gonna be Day Four. What even is the purpose anymore?

OKAY I JUST GOT TO THE RED WEDDING. WHAT THE ABSOLUTE FUCK DID I JUST READ. I was gasping audibly on the bus ride home, whoops.

Oh hey.

*blink blink* What did I even do on Friday?

Saturday, I know, I went to Lush karaoke. OH MAN I never realized how much more fun alcohol makes it. :V It was really nice to have a grown-up crowd, and to have a little more fun than usual. Most people were really cool about drinking, and even if they were drunk, didn't show it too much. And the people who'd never done karaoke before were amazed that the time flew as quickly as it did.

The white elephant gift exchange was pretty good, too. Jet wound up with the hot chocolate set I bought, and I got Maria's bracelets, which are COOL and MAKE NOISE and will be so much fun when I cosplay Relm and fem!India. It worked out so that we were all so happy with what we initially picked up that no one stole anyone else's presents (though we all bought new things (which might've been part of why we were all so happy), we put a limit of $20)! Kiera also got me a little Rangers Christmas tree ornament, and I was happy to put that on the tree at home.

After karaoke, we went to Joe Shanghai's for dinner. I just had soup dumplings (and ice cream because omg). :V I might have been wearing my Canucks jersey in case I went through Times Square to get certain pictures for a certain contest. Wound up not going that way, but I did make more than a couple of single-serving friends because of the jersey. "Hey, Kesler!" "Are you from Vancouver? I love the Canucks!" "Wow, I never thought I'd see a Canucks jersey out here in New York...." Man, I felt cool. XD

After dinner, naturally, I found myself at Leigh's, which seems to be where I wind up for anything nowadays. We hung out to discuss admin things (and forgot some ;a;), and wound up staying until about 2:30 in the morning. Leigh drove us home.

We were right back over on Sunday, just hanging out all day. It was cold, though, a good 25F (-3C) in the morning. Not that that's altogether unusual for December (a little bit), but compared to the fifties we've been having all month, it's a bit drastic. We had tea, got Ricardo, got food, played a bunch of games, and wound up going home around 11:45.

Today, I fucking slept. My mom bothered me about ten to seven, and, summarily, the conversation went like this:

"Venus, have you been here all day?"
"Yes."
"Why did you help your dad? You know he's here."
"I was asleep, I can't do things while I'm asleep."
"DON'T GET SARCASTIC WITH ME."

But, ew, seriously, I thought someone else was here. And now I'm expected to do things I didn't know I was supposed to do (because I was asleep) while I'm asleep. And she didn't ask in a very timely fashion; she usually gets home from work about three or so, but waited four hours to see what I was doing first. Um, okay. And she didn't even know I had been here, what if I hadn't've been here? You know, like yesterday when I walked in at midnight, and no one knew I had been missing all day (no one asked, no one called. Mom didn't even make mention of the text message I sent last night when I was leaving Leigh's).

It's that inconsistency I can't fucking stand. I would write it off as stress about my dad if she hadn't already said tons of stupid things before. I really think some people just don't wanna listen to what I'm saying and assume because I'm saying it, it's something assholish. I'm looking at you, F. That's the only possible explanation I've got.

Since then, I've hidden in my room (which isn't much different than what I'd been doing all day but shhhh). Canucks just won their twentieth game, 4-0, against Minnesota! Philly lost against Colorado, but in the shootout, and Boston beat Montreal, so Boston goes up to first by a point, and the Rangers are four points behind the Flyers. They play the Devils tomorrow.

And XXXXX died and XXXXX died and XXXXX died and XXXXX almost died but then he turned around and killed XXXXX instead! /storm of swords, i'm still not at the red wedding. i have no idea when it happens but i still have like 700 more pages in this freakin' book. i'm way off pace.

That's about it.

I enjoy reading, but it feels a little forced, and forced reading is the reason I didn't like reading for many years, and probably why I have shitty reading comprehension and fall asleep often. I'm just so bored and there's nothing to do and no one to talk to and even though I just got to this part of SoS... is it wrong to say I didn't appreciate it as much as I should have? Without it being weird?

So here I am yet again, being a lump yet again. Didn't visit Dad today, because the battery in the car seems to have died. Didn't go to the 24/7 event, obviously, because I'm feeling so listless (and, y'know, being alone in a crowd. I'll pass). The only thing I can do is read, but I feel like I'm forcing it, especially since I've fallen a bit off-pace. Whatever, it's just another hour, then a little bit of TV (there's a drinking game, if you feel like killing yourself in ten minutes or less), then sleep because DEAR GOD I AM BORED.

Edit: "Brandon Dubinsky, cursing like a sailor" might've turned me on a little bit. that was some a+ swearing.

Whoops, wait, I forgot I have semi-real research to do!

Saturday. Woke up at ten. Theresa distracted me until eleven. Whoops. Eventually made my way down to PAS-Con; got above ground around a quarter after two, and to the con itself about three (stopped at the store for some headache stuff because I had one out of nowhere and then there was a mile-long line for coffee). By the way, they only glanced at my ID, but it was better that I'd come prepared. As predicted, though, it was nothing to write home about: just a shittier version of SpringFest. Found Adam, hung out with him for a while until Ruko found me. I basically sat in the maid cafe all day and bullshitted. Won a round of Janken, so I got a small Soul Eater figure for [livejournal.com profile] arthoniel, even if it's not the one she cosplays. Whoops. Ate dinner with Ru, Andrea, Trevor, Arvee, and some others, then went to find Esmeralda in Grand Central, so I missed Sneko's show.

Esmeralda was at Karaokestuck, and she'd been drinking, leaving many people many drunk!texts. It'd been a few hours so she had sobered enough to navigate the subway by herself, not a big deal (and there was some other drama, but I won't speak of that. tl;dr - I hate people). So we went back to her house for the emotional support I promised her, only to find out that her mother had eaten our commiseration ice cream. :/ So we watched the Rangers game, which cheered us up a little, and went to sleep.

Sunday, we had to go back to the karaoke place when they opened at one because Es had left her credit card there. From there, we went to Leigh's and hung out with her and Sparkles forever. Jet, Kaitlin, and ... oh god, what was the other girl's name....? Anyway, there were seven of us for a little while. We got food, it was delicious. The other three left, we fell into characters and watched 1970s Alice in Wonderland-based musical porn, took Sparkles home, Es wasn't feeling well (what the fuck else is new, really. There's always something wrong with her), Leigh and I played Fluxx until two in the morning (Zombie Fluxx made me extremely nervous, and Matt appropriately won Hippie Fluxx). Eventually, even with a cup of coffee, I had to be a loser and the first to fall out, so we slept on couches in her basement.

When I woke up this morning, I half-expected to see snow on the ground, since it was a very snow-looking sky. Nope, fifty degrees. :V Another cup of coffee, Es took me home, Leigh went off to a job interview (she got it! :D), and I... augh.

Jose signed with Florida Miami the Marlins, you guys. For real this time. MY BrOTP is over. Say goodbye to the icon, everyone. ;A;

And then this stupid article about Valerie fucking Reidy. Not to knock the teachers at the school, it's just Reidy I hate. I wasn't there for her, thank god, but I have friends who were, and they told me the change between Mr. Blumenstein and Mr. Stark and her was awful. I keep talking to Scienceites when I can find them, and from what I hear, it just keeps getting worse. It makes me sad.

And I fell back asleep and had a half-nightmare about the dogs we've had before Bradley, and I'm trying to learn and choreograph three dances at once and read my book (A Storm of Swords is ready for me at the library!) because I can't renew it and buy some ice skates and upload videos from PAS-Con (seriously, why does it take me SO LONG to upload them?!) and I've got to go to work tomorrow unlike my plan and... augh!

Rangers lost to Toronto, 4-2. Snapped a five-game streak. Next game is Thursday.

I'm just done today. I'm gonna go practice and read.

I'm a child. :V But yay, another successful NaBloPoMo! And tomorrow I can relax. Whew!

Some things: I registered for AnimeNEXT and Katsu; waited until today because tomorrow's pay day and I can pay off my card when I deposit my check. Mmmm, good credit.

I recorded your thing, [livejournal.com profile] mykonos2! I e-mailed you the file.

I'm actually working on Munasawagi Scarlet. My goal is to understand what's going on in that hand... thing... before the night is over.

A Clash of Kings is like OMG. I mean, not that characters don't drop like flies in some places, but an unexpected (read: "very sudden") death was keeping my attention before eight o'clock this morning. Still second for The Omen Machine, but I requested A Storm of Swords and I'm eighth (of eight, naturally) for that one. That's okay, since I still have half of A Clash of Kings left.

And now for one of my thrice-weekly work!rants. )

Both the Rangers and the Canucks won yesterday, extending their win streaks to three and five, respectively. AND I HEAR MASON RAYMOND WILL BE BACK TOMORROW SLKDJFLSDKJF ALL MY JOY. 27. Closing arguments on why someone who has never watched a hockey game should. Um, it's fun. Most people like fast-paced sports, and this is that. But mostly you'll do it because I'm asking you to, and it's a lot more interesting when someone is telling you what's going on. I still can't explain, myself, whey I like it, but you should give it a chance. ... Also because there can never be enough people making fun of Princess Sindey. :3c lol whoops i almost forgot to do this part. how do you like the weakest answer ever? i'm so tired.

December starts tomorrow. It's cold. Final word count: just over 12,500.
venusplz: (Default)
While I was kept rather busy at work today (wanna piss me off? Give me fifty of the same things to do, but piecemeal), I've done nothing since getting home. Rather, I've done a lot of one thing, and that thing is sleeping. Since six or so, I've slept about four and a half hours. It's eleven. I'm bored and I have nothing to do and I'm feeling mopey and lonely, so sleep is the best fix of all three of those.

I've been relatively flying through A Clash of Kings. Now that I have a better picture of what's going on in my mind, it's not so boring. I'm now second (of two) in the queue for The Omen Machine, so I need to read faster! Hopefully, I get a lot of that accomplished tomorrow. Not looking forward to it at all. Just gonna keep telling myself that in twenty-four hours, I'll be back home and comfortable. Holidays keep getting worse and worse and I would rather have some teeth pulled. Should look into getting that mini fridge for next month, and a rope ladder so I don't have to leave through the house (THIS IS HOW BAD I AM).

So it looks like ichiP! and P*P are going to collab on Munasawagi Scarlet for AnimeNEXT. As it was my suggestion, I'm pretty damn excited. I don't know how we're going to work this out, and I should probably start sketching it up just to do it. At times, it hits me: OMG BERRYZ KOUBOU but other times, I'm pretty indifferent because chances are I'm going to miss them just like I do everyone else, and whatever ichiPeach! (which is what I call us in my head, because Paradise*Pantsu is a BAD IDEA) winds up doing will be just another show. All my panels will be scheduled during Berryz' shit, watch (though if they don't post group rates soon, I'm gonna prereg alone. Not like I won't get my money back). :V

Here's where [livejournal.com profile] jennybenz's meme runs out; rather, it has one question left, but I'll save that for next week. Question that I'm snatching from the other meme is 20. Who has the best rivalry? I don't know too much about other rivalries around the NHL (though Leafs/Habs seems like it would be fun if I were a fan of either team Toronto (because ew Montreal)), but here's what I do know:

•I've been told I should hate the Blackhawks like a good little Canucks fan should. :D Obviously, also Boston, those fuckers. >:(
[livejournal.com profile] jennybenz, help me out. Who don't I like because of Buffalo?
•More like the Islanderps, amirite?
•They're from Jersey, haven't they been punished enough? (No.)
•More like the Broad Street Bullshit, amirite?

Herp, locality. Three teams within ~100 miles of the Rangers, derp.

Speaking of the Rangers, they fell 2-1 to Florida tonight (Canucks are winning 2-0 after two, though!). Okay, so I guess our next seven-game run will start on Friday. We've got, um... awwww, Washingto-- dammit, Philly on Saturday?! D: The third game is against the Penguins, and while I didn't include them in the rivalry bit, I can't wait to beat them: Crosby's back, so I hear, and it's always fun to make everyone's favorite princess cry. >D

So, maybe I'll listen to the third period, maybe I'll read a little more. I won't eat because I'm not hungry, but I'll certainly be back in bed before midnight. Just... continue ignoring me, it's okay. I'd rather you did; it's not like I'm not used to it.
venusplz: (Default)
Shut up, Venus, no one cares about baseball, especially not in November. )

So I hear that we've got an Ender! And while I knew there was little chance of actor!Ender looking anything like myimagination!Ender, this kid's fourteen and British. ... Ender was, like, six, and American. I know it's called acting, but shit, I couldn't even pass for six when I was fourteen (nine, maybe. Not six). I, like Amanda, am glad he's not a "sexy" kid, though, and that he's just a kid. Teenager. Whatever. He does look like he could age up into myimagination!adult!Ender, though who was hella sexy and could have done a million times better than that Novinha slut.

Went to the library, got my book, which I'll probably start reading Sunday. I requested The Omen Machine, and I'm third (out of three, lol) in the queue for that. Working on my Canucks scarf, will get pictures of it and the others up eventually. I know I owe a lot of pictures and video. ;A;

15. Favorite hockey gif/macro? Easy:
