Candy Review
Feb. 27th, 2005 01:05 amAt the mall again today, and I spent a lot of time at Dylan's. :::drool::: I stopped in because I saw a chocolate fountain and HAD to have some. I had a s'more. I paid two dollars for it and it was worth every penny; the thing was ORGASMIC. Two dollars was a steal. Sex ain't that cheap. This was a suitable replacement.
LOL I'm babbling now. But the s'more was really good.
So I went to the back to look for more Harry Potter like candy because I had a less-than-happy experience with Drooble's "Best" Blowing Gum. This time, I bought a Chocolate Frog, Jelly Slugs and Ice Mice. I stayed away from Acid Pops and the Bean Sampler. I figured Dylan's got enough of my money (nearly twenty dollars!) for the day.
The Chocolate Frog was horribly lacking, not to mention it cost $5 (I didn't realize that until after I'd bought it and read the receipt. I wondered how I spent so much). It was a relatively tiny frog, milk chocolate with colored crispies in it (that was unexpected), but very much not unlike a Nestlé Crunch bar. The collectible card was interesting, but not attention-grabbing (mine was Professor Sprout, by the way). But I'm never buying another one. They made them look so much more interesting in the movies, what with the odd-shaped boxes and the liquidy-looking frogs.
The Jelly Slugs were even worse. They were sticky (they stuck to my teeth something fierce), chewy, semi-fruity-flavored candies in what were supposed to be slug shapes, but they more closely resembled alligators. This was most noticable with the green slug. The four different colors of slug were supposed to be four different flavors: juicy pear, wild cherry, tangerine and watermelon. The watermelon was purple for some odd reason and tasted nothing. Like. Watermelon. In fact, I don't even KNOW what it tasted like. The tangerine was just as bland. Juicy pear had a little bit of a flavor to it, but not so much. Wild cherry was the best of the four. It wasn't, by any means, spectacular, though. I can't even finish the package of slugs, and I'm thinking of just giving them away. Oh. They were like Swedish Fish (the connection just hit me). And it's no wonder I didn't like the slugs because I don't like Swedish Fish. If you like Swedish Fish, you can give the Jelly Slugs a shot, but I'd advise against it, if only because the package cost about $4.
Last up, Ice Mice. By now, I was dreading them. I passed up on them last time because I didn't know what they were supposed to be, but today I was feeling rather adventurous. Plus, the box said they were "berry flavored", so I figured it couldn't have been that bad. Then again, I still hadn't tried the Jelly Slugs. The Ice Mice came four to a package, which was sealed in clear plastic wrap. The plastic wrap, then, was taped shut at the ends, for some reason. It took me a while to figure that out and rip off the plastic (I skinned my finger! ;-; ) but from there, it was smooth sailing. The Ice Mice were also the most attractively packaged. Rather than just thrown in a bag, they came in a small recloseable box. Always a plus. The Mice were individually wrapped inside, and this time, it was easy to get the wrapper off. They were hard candy mice trapped in candy ice (I'll post a picture soon, so you can see what I mean). I put one in my mouth and was instantly satisfied. It was nice and sweet and berry flavored. It was a little difficult to talk with one in my mouth, but it didn't matter. Once I sucked away all the ice, I chewed on the mouse. That wasn't as great as the ice itself, but it was still the best of the three candies.
Overall, not a pleasant experience. The Chocolate Frogs had the potential to be SO MUCH BETTER, and the Jelly Slugs, well.... But the Ice Mice were great and they cost the least, too. Three-fifty, I think. Making Bertie Bott's Beans was a good idea, but someone took it and ran off in the WRONG direction. This needs to stop. I shudder to think what would happen with Pumpkin Pasties, or worse, Butterbeer.
....At least my s'more was good. I shoulda bought another. X_X
OOOOH! I preordered Wind Waker 2 (cuz the thing still doesn't have a real name yet)! Yay! It was a slow shopping day otherwise; the only other things I bought were food.
