Finally nerdity runs in my family!!!
Jul. 31st, 2005 01:55 pmOther than the musicians I've got (they're distant and like REAL musicians, so they don't quite count), I found the one other geek who's outwardly cool in my family: my cousin Justin.
I was sleeping in late as per usual when someone knocked on my door, waking me up. Figured it was Matt or Ingrid with the phone; that someone had called the house because I keep my cell on vibrate while I sleep so it doesn't wake me up and I don't answer the phone all RAWR and grouchy. Instead, someone much taller was on the other side: Justin! And I haven't seen him in literally years, so I was quite surprised. I glomped him. I am not ashamed to say this. ^_^
So we got to talking, just normal catching up and stuff. He asked about school..... lol it's been that long since we've seen each other, lol. He also asked how old I was; apparently, he's forgotten that I'm always five years older than he is... that means he's finally eighteen (we wished each other happy belated birthdays), and legal and officially an adult and that's SCARY because I remember when he was born!
I pointed out the tattoos on his arms: a dragon on his right shoulder and an ankh on his left. I don't know why, but they're there. Anyway. I said they were pretty cool, and he pointed out the pyramid under the ankh (I didn't see it right away because I was minus teh_spectacles), and then asked me the best question I've ever been asked.
"You watch Yu-Gi-Oh!, right?"
I nearly died! I did that gasp-and-cover-my-mouth-with-my-hands thing that I do and squealed "YES! I'm a junkie!"
This would not be cool enough to admit to anyone else in any other situation, you realize. Of course you do. And now you all know that my geekiness extends a little further (although I'll never trump Angel, who's told me that he does WAY more than just watch. :o)
And then we started talking about it. :::spins around::: We discussed it; it was fantastic. And I feel a little bit better that because he's all grown up and he watches the same stuff that I do and will dissect it the same way I would. THAT IS AWESOME.
I love you, Justin.
