I'm allowed to be pissed off today.
Sep. 25th, 2005 03:32 pmMe: I hate Nintendo.
You: WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?!?!?!
(Eh, you know I don't mean it. I didn't wanna see anything Mets after I quit, but four days later, I was at a game, so.)
So I kept (more or less) mum because I knew people would badger me about it, but Shigeru Miyamoto was at the Nintendo Store signing autographs today. That's right, Shiggy. The creator of Mario, Zelda and more. In my backyard. The first 200 people were guaranteed to get something signed. I planned to show up at 6 AM, and the few people I did tell didn't seem to believe me.
Well, I DID show up at 6 AM, bitches. :P
I woke up at four and was out of the house by twenty to five (stars, waning half moon, really bright). While I was waiting for the bus (set to show up at 5:07), this creepy guy driving past actually stopped his car, and backed up to talk to me. He actually asked me to come over to his car, and I said no, and then he offered to come out of his car, and I said no again and started to seriously worry. There was little ol' me, all by myself, in the dark, four forty-five in the morning, and no one knew. Against anyone, I'm more or less toast. But the heavens opened and a random dude stepped out of his building and waited for the bus with me, and shortly after Creepy Guy in the Car left. WHEW.
A few minutes later, the bus showed up. The commute was uneventful, save for at 179th St., where a Daily News truck apparently backed over the front end of a car parked behind it.
So I got to the line around a quarter after six. It was still dark out, but I was fairly close to the entrance of the store. There HAD to have been less than two hundred people on the line, which was AWESOME. And there's not much to say about waiting in line, except I made some new friends. I also got to watch Advent Children, finally, but I was half-distracted by all the goings-on and I couldn't exactly hear any of the movie, so I'll need to watch it again.
The Nintendo Store employees came around fairly often with free pizza and water. I don't know when Shiggy showed up, but the line was moving quickly at first. Long story short, lots of people jumped the line and even though I was supposed to get in (and really REALLY should have), I didn't. I'm not ashamed to say that I cried (more so because risking getting raped or worse turned out not to be worth it). The first 200 people on line went in sans problème and the rest of us -- by the time the 200 people went inside, I was maybe twentieth on line -- waited, holding a collective breath. Would we get in? We were waiting an awfully long time, and maybe Shiggy was resting his arm or eating a sandwich or something, but no. They snuck him out the back.
We got dinky consolation prizes, and for some reason, I didn't feel much like applying for work at the Nintendo Store anymore. I went down to Toys 'R' Us ("I don't wanna see anything Nintendo!" :::Kat steers Venus CLEAR of the games section:::) and met Kat and applied, and he gave me a big hug that I really needed. I went home after that; I didn't have much energy to take me to B&N or Dylan's, either.
So I'm upset, and the initial shock was like getting punched in the stomach. But I'm relatively fine, now. I stopped crying a while ago (before I got to Toys), but it hurts like hell, y'know? Security couldn't do anything to y'know, maybe SECURE the line? I suppose next time Shiggy visits the Nintendo Store, I'll camp out all night.....
