To [livejournal.com profile] dimitriobsidian (where are you? You commented an HOUR before I started writing!) and [livejournal.com profile] korichan: Thank you. ^_^ Cid is my first choice for Halloween because I love him so much, but if I can't be him, then I'll settle for Human InuYasha. The only things I'll have to worry about are my hair, the weather, and whether or not I have to wear shoes (because if I don't have to, you know I won't, and if I do, I'll be InuYasha-kinda-pissed). Either way, it'll be a challenge to see how long I can go without swearing. XD!

And if I'm InuYasha, a further challenge not to growl at Hello Kitty and Chococat. Can you imagine, in any Bizzaro-verse, him saying, "Hi! Welcome to Sanrio!"? :::weirded out:::

Old layout's back because I couldn't read some of the posts on my friends page and don't want to have to highlight. Oh, well. 'Twas fun while it lasted.

So the update that I didn't give yesterday because I was too zombified to:

I called on Thursday to see what they wanted, and yay, got the job. Just to make sure, I asked what the dress code was. All black, they said, which was a change from what I saw on my interview. Maybe it was a special event, or something that only happened on Fridays, but I shrugged it off, and got dressed in black on Friday.

I got to the store at noon and filled out some more paperwork. Then, I was told to come back at two. It was 12:30. >_<# First thing. When I did come back, and the manager (Karen, from the Times Square store... I didn't know there was a Sanrio there! LOL) started explaining things to me, she mentioned how the dress code was all black, and at the same time, started taking the other workers' smocks (they were black and said "Sanrio" across the chest in pink) and nametags away, so everyone was just wearing solid black. One of the girls, Evelise (Evie) was so upset and felt so naked, that she fed the register, cut off a piece of paper, wrote "Hi! My name is Evelise." on it, and taped it to her shirt... until Karen said she couldn't.

So now I have to wear all black to work everyday. Problem with that: I only have ONE black shirt and I only have ONE black pair of pants (also only one pair of black sneakers, but that's not too big of a deal; they're sneakers). I don't understand what I'm supposed to do when my clothes get dirty. I mean, I've got my RPGW menu screen shirt and my Infernomancer shirt (both of which are discontinued, btw), but... I don't think I can get away with those.

So I started work at two, and was supposed to go until ten, which is closing. Isn't that great, I got to close on my FIRST DAY. -_-; Eight hours of milling about the store. Not bad. I got to do other things in the meantime, like clean the cabinets, understocking and wrap up two giant plushies (more later). But this one dude, Fernando, told me that I always Always ALWAYS have to look productive. Why? He pointed to one of the cameras. I knew it was there, but still. He said this woman named Carmen, who's like Suepr Duper Uber Manager-type-lady was watching us through the cameras. From Florida. And that she came once a month to inspect us in person. "If she doesn't like the job you're doing," he told me, "you're fired." For that reason, they -- everyone -- call her God. EEP. Way to make me supernervous twenty seconds into my first day. You couldn't even let me pretend I could get comfortable, no! Oh. And God is visiting on Monday.

Not to mention we have to be on CONSTANT guard against thieves because there are a lot of them.

If I become obscenely paranoid in the coming weeks, you'll understand why. I tried to be constantly moving, helping customers that didn't need help and adjusting things on the shelves for fear that God would see me and strike me down where I stood. I don't know how much longer I can do that and retain my sanity. :/

One last gripe: I'm going to HAVE to pick up some Spanish. It's a bit irksome, but. I'm really hesitant to welcome customers into the store that obviously prefer to speak Spanish over English, and I'm scared to help them. At the same time, I'm offended when they come up to me and start speaking in broken English. :/ It's so odd. I mean, I live in New York. How could I not know SOME Spanish? If someone came up to me all, "Permiso, ¿cuánto cuesta?" ("'Scuse me, how much is this?") I'd be able to say, "Diecinueve cincuenta." ("Nineteen-fifty.") NOT HARD. And offering cookies to the kids? "¿Quieres una galleta?" ("Do you want a cookie?") I've got the accent and everything. Helping-helping, on the other hand, like showing the jewelry or something... I'll leave that to Nando. Oh. Everyone at work seems to know Spanish. Great. >.o I'll be picking up their accents in no time, too. I had already started to, a little, by maybe... four PM. OY.

That aside, my coworkers are great people. Nando gave me a quickie quiz, giving me words and phrases in Spanish, and seeing if I knew what they meant. I can do that; I can understand. I just can't speak. That's my problem. I WILL trip over the simplest of words, like "diecinueve". But they're nice and friendly and stuff, which is good. I like that kind of environment; I need to be able to talk to and joke with coworkers. In fact, Fernando and I were already punching each other in the arm before I was there an hour. ^_^

And it's the Sanrio store. How could I not be happy when I'm amongst Hello Kitty and her friends, with the TV show CONSTANTLY playing on the TVs we have for sale? I'm SO going to buy myself a Chococat bath set! Unfortunately, I don't get an employee discount for a month yet..... but that's okay. On top of the Chococat bath set (you think I'm kidding. Watch. You also thought I was kidding about going to meet Shiggy at six in the morning), we have these candles. They come in two scents, guava and green tea. The guava ones are nice and fruity, but the green tea ones are absolutely divine and I could buy a million of them and still be displeased. They smell just like green tea Pocky. :3 No one else liked them, but man... I'm so gonna buy a bunch, even if I never ever use them. I'll stick them in my locker in the back. I have a locker! :3

The day was more or less uneventful, I mean, nothing really special happened (I learned how to work the register, though! "One, two, three dollars... and forty-two cents is your change. Thank you for shopping at Sanrio! Have a nice day! ^_^!"). I spent most of the day just milling about, fearing the wrath of God. Towards the end of the day (the mall closes at 9:30; why are people STILL TRYING TO SHOP at 9:15?! Go home!), some people came in... no big deal. One of them, a man, asked for the two GIANT plushies we have (one Cinnamoroll and the other, natch, Hello Kitty).

I helped Ariana -- the manager after Karen left -- fetch two big boxes from the back. Oh my goodness. Of course, then, we had to get them out of the boxes and stick them in bags. We have these GIGANTIC -- I mean, really huge, where you could (easily) fit three small children, or a small adult (joyride!) in there -- bags exclusively for the giant plushies o' doom. And it was fun to get them in there because the plushies come in a big plastic bag already, so plastic against plastic equals rude noises. XD! We got Hello Kitty and Cinnamoroll into a bag each, then Ariana pulled out what looked like a long piece of curling ribbon. "Watch," she said, and she pulled two strings on the ribbon that I didn't see, and the ribbon fell into a perfect bow! It was so cool, and I was quite amazed. We tied the ribbons on (blue and pink; they were for a baby shower) and... y'know, I'm not sure how this guy left the store. XD But it was a $185 sale, so hey. Not too shabby.

We had a goal of $2000 for the day. We made $1467.93. >.o

After that, we were more or less done, so we closed up. I swept, and was happy to do it too because I love to sweep (OMG PSYCHO) -- you know what a neatnik I am -- and the floor was bothering me all day. So that's it. I'm off until Wednesday ("WTF!" I said. "It's almost like I'm unemployed again. Four days off?!?!" LOL). And my schedule for this week is as follows, if anyone cares:

Weds 10/12: 2-10
Thurs 10/13: 10-5
Fri 10/14: 10-5
Sat 10/15: 12-8

(I have to remind them that I'm flexible, yes, but I prefer to open because I don't like to travel by myself at night. Besides, if I leave at five or six in the evening, I still have the evening to myself.)

Seven bucks an hour, paid every week, so my first check for thirty-eight hours ($266 gross) should be coming on Friday the twenty-first. HURRAY!

If John Shawn calls me back for this year, though, :::crosses fingers and prays::: I won't say no. I loved that job to pieces, and I'd be happy to do it again. Plus, I can calm down and not worry about God.

Wish me luck, everyone. I'm gonna need it. ^_^;
