Meme and Menachem's party.
Aug. 13th, 2006 11:35 pmSo, it was Menachem's birthday party today; for the third year in a row, I made the arduous journey up to Yonkers. That's right; I set foot in New York STATE today! He lives a half-block from the Bronx, so it wasn't that serious, but still!
There were food and drinks and fun icebreakers (but not the famous "Guess Whose Eye" from two years ago), as usual. Eugene made some ... odd ... concoction that involved vodka, apricot-something and cranberry juice that tasted too much like church wine. It was strange, but very good. Jasper and Joe jammed on their guitars, and Ben joined them briefly. Some of the boys played basketball, or tried to. I sat around quietly. I always feel a bit out of the loop, but content to watch everyone nonetheless. It's the wallflower in me.
I'm getting better at remembering everyone's names, though! I recognized some faces, too!
I forgot that today was the Dominican (Day?) Parade, and the only way home from Menachem's is on the 1 train, which goes straight through Washington Heights, which is home to a HUGE Dominican population. From 168th St down to Times Square and onto the 7 train, I heard cheering and whistles and music at every stop. I wouldn't have minded usually, but I was trying to read. I make this all sound a lot more boring than it really was, but it took up nine hours of my day, so it couldn't have been all bad.
Guess what,
raspberrysorbet? I jacked your ( meme. )
