I met another cosplayer today! ♪
Oct. 26th, 2008 11:14 pmSo I was putting some things away with about five minutes left in my shift, and a guy (with his young son, lol, what was that rant about children, yesterday?) asked for my help. He wasn't sure what sort of felt he should get for the kid's Halloween costume. The kid had "2 gray 5 brown" written in his little-kid-handwriting (i.e., large and scrawly) one a page, in pencil, and, like, NEON GREEN crayon. XD Anyway, so I asked the kid what he was going to be. He was too shy to answer. Dad told me he was going to be one of the Ninja Turtles, and alluded to Raphael (he was trying to get his son to speak). He was unsure, though, if that's exactly what they needed, or if they should get some more colors, or a different amount. I tried gauging what they might need by asking a lot of questions (I'm GOOD at customer service (when it deals with costumes)!). Then he asked me what I was going to be for Halloween.
...Did he smell the otaku? I thought I've kept it covered at work so far! I mean, all I said was that I had a performance at the Javits.... I mean, honestly, I was shocked. How could he have guessed? I tried to explain, without giving too much detail, who Rinoa was (yeah. I'm bummed, too), and I couldn't make out what the guy's response was until I heard the magic word.
Crossplay.
"You know! You said 'crossplay,' you know what it is!"
"Yeah, it's fairly common in Japan...."
"Oh, you've been to Japan?" I asked, trying to sound casual and probably failing.
"I just got back, not too long ago. We go there all the time."
Our delightful, would-be-nerdy conversation was cut off abruptly by a phone call from his wife, and I could hear Japanese being spoken (P.S., the guy wasn't Japanese. But the kid DID look half-Asian). At this point, my brain nearly exploded, as I imagined what was probably c(r)o(s)splay!wife. In the end, she told him that what the kid had scrawled on his paper was exactly right, and that's all that they would need. Cue imagination becoming more vivid.
With a shrug, cosplay!dad shrugged and led cosplay!kid to the looooooooooong lines at the registers, which is another story that I'm mercifully not involved in!, and that was that. I put the rest of my stuff away and *eventually* got out of the store.
Because people kept. Asking. Me. Shit. But yeah, more cosplayers! .... Ish. [/ヲタク]
Also, I think I'm becoming more addicted to HM:ToT. It's not nearly as bad as my FoMT addiction of five years ago (THANKS PHILIP), in part because I can't take it with me, but a good chunk of Tuesday will probably be spent on it instead of making my hair pretty and attempting that Zelda speed run I was talking about on LP. (FOUR HOURS, CAN I DO IT? No. I'm guessing it'll be around 5:30, considering I haven't played in a long time.)
Lastly, I got a reply to a comment I left on dA. I left the comment more than three and a half years ago. ...wut.
