Someone on
hetalia posted a link to
Himaruya's blog entry for today (erm, tomorrow, as it's dated 8/27 at 4:09 AM lol time zones), and I decided to take a look at a couple of the backentries. One of them listed a few countries' national anthems, and I decided to give them a listen. I knew Canada's, so I sang along, and I discovered that Austria's is so pretty. *_*
The last one listed was Poland's. It sounded
so familiar, but I couldn't understand why or how I knew a song I've never heard before. I looked up, and, as I'm sitting on my bed, saw my top hat in its resting place on my closet's doorknob. Oh yeah. We totally played it at All-City once for the
Pulaski Day Parade*. XD I really do miss marching band. That an ensemble was in Bryant Park yesterday -- and wrapped things up with
Stars and Stripes Forever (which has the most kickass piccolo obbligato in the history of obbligatos**), and spinning my umbrella like a flag (hint: tosses don't work) -- only adds to this sentiment.
*Polish jokes are always about how the Polish are backwards, yes? The Pulaski Day Parade was the only one that was actually marched "backwards," i.e., it went downtown instead of uptown. (Technically, most of the parades were done backwards, because they were marched uptown on Fifth Ave., though Fifth Ave. is one-way southbound. I had no idea that street went south for
years, and was extremely disoriented when I found out.)
**And thanks to All-City, we were able to attend a performance of the United States Army Band at Lincoln Center. Predictably, they finished with Stars and Stripes Forever, and had not one, but FOUR piccoloists doing the obbligato. I'm pretty sure I came. XD
Also, lol nationalism.
Edit, 27 August 0046 - (Insert school here)'s alma mater? A very uninteresting song. I don't like the pickup notes everywhere, and it doesn't feel like it's in its own key. It's in Eb, why so many Fs and Cs?! I think it's fitting that the composer was a woman whose name could be the onomatopoeia for retching. :/
(New tag because I do this too often. One day I'll get around to organizing my tags. Um, November 2004's all taken care of. >.>;;)
