First off, my alarm went off at five to eight. I woke up very sharply from an odd dream I was having: I had the most bizarre dream before I woke up this morning. You'd think I'd learn not to play Zelda right before bed AND have a Zelda soundtrack play while I was sleeping, because of the strange results that I sometimes get, but no. I'm just that stupid. Perhaps because I love these weird, nonsensical dreams.
Anyway, there was quite a bit of stuff that led up to the part that I remember, but that I don't remember now (the stuff, that is), and will probably remember during the day, leading to several "oh!" moments and frantically scribbling on receipt tape at work. But what I do remember, I was on a train. Apparently, it turned out that it was supposed to be the LIRR, but I was in Maryland or something? Anyway. So I get off the train, and it must have turned into a bus, because I called Alex all, "I just got off the bus."
He had left me a message on my phone, wondering when I was going to leave. I was supposed to visit him, I guess, for a round of Twilight Princess. Jerk. I hate him. So when I called him, he seemed surprised, "That was fast." I told him that I'd be there in a few minutes. Now, I'd get off the LIRR in Lindenhurst, and take the bus to West Babylon (as I've learned is easier), then get off somewhere on Straight Path that's a block or three away from Alex. The train took me there, instead. Okay, whatever. It's just weird.
So I was walking to Alex's, and decided that I needed to "finish this game," so I kept walking up Straight Path. I'd cleared up until 5th Ave. previously (I saved, I think, lol), because that's when enemies started attacking. They were pretty easy, even though they were supposed to be tough, so I got rid of them quickly. Then, up on 1st (see, I don't even know if there IS a 1st), was the boss. He was a pain and there were these three old ladies -- one of them had stolen my sweater! -- making it more difficult for me.
I had some sort of "live pause" mode, which meant that even though this was a real-life battle, I could pause it and, say, get something to drink, or fix my glasses (which I needed to do) without risk of getting harmed. And it worked a couple of times -- the old ladies would badger me the most then -- but not the third, and I was running around trying to figure out what to do. The big lizard boss dude had a mace, not unlike this dude from the Japanese ALttP commercial. XD
I got rid of him somehow, but those old ladies were still pestering me. I pretended to be an old lady, too, I think, and did something quite disgusting to the sweater that one of them stole from me (if I can't wear it, she can't, either!) and something else happened before my alarm woke me up.
And now that I've spent ten minutes writing this, it's time to get to work. XD Obviously, I wrote that this morning. It was really quite interesting and it's a shame that my alarm went off because I'd've liked to know how that fight would have turned out. Would I have gotten to Alex's okay? Would I play Twilight Princess? XD
So on my way to work, I pushed my glasses up my nose. They're a bit old, and have the habit of sliding down a lot because they're not as tight as they used to be. I felt a SNAP on the left side, and thought that I'd lost the screw that holds the stem to the frames. Well, almost. The frame itself had snapped away from the stem, leaving me with very broken glasses and blurry vision. I suffered all the way to work.
I thought tack glue would hold, and it didn't. After Wendy MADE me go to LensCrafters, I discovered that my frames had to be soldered. Fortunately for me, there was a jeweler on the other side of the mall. He was able to fix my frames (though there's slight discoloration, but WHO CARES, because I can see), and it set me back almost forty bucks. Not an expense I'd planned on, but thank goodness I'd kept some emergency money in my wallet.
I hate wearing my lenses. Even when I have to, the convenience of not wearing glasses is outweighed by the pure annoyance factor. D: Even though I tend to lose them if they're not on my face, I love my glasses so much more, and I think I look better with them, too. I can't stand to look at pictures of myself before I turned seventeen....
Anyway. So work. Here's what's pressing: one of the company VPs is going to visit the store next Wednesday, or so we've heard rumors. Carmen was also supposed to stop by on Monday, and look how that turned out. Despite that, we'd like to err on the side of caution, so we're trying to spiff up the store. In the midst of our spiff on Monday, we received eighty-nine boxes. I don't think I'd ever seen that many all at once. And because Wendy wasn't feeling well, she volunteered to hide in the back and count them all in.
She was still counting them in when I left today. Oh, and then we got twenty more, all transfer stuff from Times Square. Karla was appalled at the condition of some of the items; I had to tell her quite bluntly that we're Times Square's junkyard. Everything they can't sell or don't like comes to us. She wrinkled her nose. XD
The kicker: it all has to be done tonight. Tomorrow, the mall is closed, and Friday's Black/Green/Polka Dot Friday, as it's the day after Thanksgiving, and for some reason, everyone and their mom (really!) needs to be in the mall buying crap. Sigh. Our goal on Friday is about four thousand dollars, and considering we did thirty-nine hundred last year with NICE stuff, I doubt we'll make it this year. We'll be yelled at. Anyway, so there are a hundred and nine boxes of CRAP floating around and poor Evie didn't know what to do, because she couldn't move this for some reason, and she couldn't move that and there was no room in the stock room and blocking the back door is a fire hazard (insert Mitch quote here) and so on. Neither of the Karens were being much help, and since Karla's still brand-spankin'-new, we can't really expect her to help, unless it's with customers, which is always the least of our worries. I had to stay an extra hour. Evie will probably have to stay very late because Karla can't; she's only seventeen. YAAAAAAAAAY. So we're all being worked like dogs. I don't know why that's news, but I'm posting it anyway. XD
Nearly two months ago, I sent out my CUNY application, and letters to my schools asking them to send my transcripts along. Some of you have been wondering what's been going on, and of course, I'd let you know if there were news in that department. Today, there finally is. I found a letter for me from the UAPC, saying "HAY ITS GR8 U WAN GO SKOOL BT WII NED TRNSCRPXX0R. LOL!" From BOTH schools. Meaning, either they didn't reach the schools -- um, no. It should have at least reached Science because I can't remember HOW many times I wrote that address on applications to various things. I know that address better than my own -- or they went ignored. Yeah. And, even though I have a day off tomorrow, it's not like I can call the schools and be like "HAY GUYZ WOT U DO?" because it's freakin' Thanksgiving. And I can't call on Friday, either, because, um, it's Thanksgiving break. OY. This has to wait until Monday at the earliest. Ten bucks says this will require a physical trip to at least one of the schools and an amazing headache.
My mom's class took a trip to Green Meadows Farm today and holy crap, nostalgia. I loved that place. ^_^
I think that's about it for today. I shall try to enjoy Turkey Day -- omg football! I haven't watched a single game all season! -- and in the meantime, the rest of the day. Sigh....
