Yesterday was like, WHOA.
Jan. 28th, 2007 01:43 pmOkay, so I got up and went to work for a cheesy three-hour shift. I opened with Nelcy, which kinda sucked because I still needed to wrap presents for Shaina's baby shower.
And the only reason I didn't mention that before was because it was a surprise. I couldn't very well say anything here where she could read it, now, could I have?
So I thought I was opening with Wendy, and she would have let me sit in the back -- or even on the floor -- wrapping, but Nelcy.... she's one of the Times Square people, so yay. D: Anyway, part of the gifts were clothes, so I was running around a good part of the mall looking for shirt boxes to put the clothes in. No one had anything, and Phill had called me to let me know he'd come to pick me up, so I ran back to my store to get my stuff with nothing accomplished.
We stopped at a Rite-Aid or something and I bought a bag, tissue paper, and a bow. I was wrapping the entire ride to Douglaston, but sat in the car a little longer once we got there to finish. And even though I was an hour late, Shaina was surprised.
I wonder, though, since I didn't know many of the people there, how I make friends if I'm so xenophobic? I mean, I was sitting next to Chris the entire time -- I was sitting next to my best friend's husband -- and we didn't say a word to each other. Shaina knew most of her friends from LARPing, so I could understand what they were saying, but I couldn't jump in. And I'll give Shaina credit for trying to include me in the conversation by mentioning my supposed cosplay talent, but I still didn't quite fit.
And Shaina took a while opening her presents. One of them was a clothes hamper that had about forty (I'm not kidding) gifts inside, so it was called the +3 Hamper of Holding. The best part about that was that everyone sitting at my table (the LARPers and Phill, too) were laughing. We're SUCH geeks. So Shaina, I mean Jayson, got a lot of nice stuff, including a Mother Goose lamp-thing that reminded me of my childhood (my brother had one. I still remember some of the lullabys).
After the shower (pictures will be posted soon, I guess), Phill was somehow recruited into taking Shaina's stuff to Aunt Sherry's, and we cut out before we could help load it into the basement. >.>;; We went to the movies, but made a pit stop at Toys R Us. It had been a while since I got a chance to play stuff, and we had a little time before the movie, so we went. I found a stuffed animal that looks just like Angelo. I couldn't help it. He's on my bed now. :D HE LIVES, I TELL YOU. Phill got some Lego sets. He was all excited because one was an ambulance and the other was a rescue copter, and the third was a (Megablocks) superhero-dude named Steth Scope. EMS gets no love, ever. Screw you, Fire and PD (not really. Extinguish my house and shoot all the bad guys, plz. ♥).
We saw Epic Movie, on Jared's tip. Shaina, do tell your brother that it was a good call. I enjoyed the movie. I can't even remember how many things were parodied (at least ten movies and two TV shows, and that's a very conservative guess), but it was definitely worth it.
After that, ice cream! And now that I think about it, we didn't make our ritualistic stop at B&N. Darn! On our way to ice cream, as we were just leaving the movie theatre, we had stopped at a light. Phill started laughing, and hysterically. I thought he was remembering something in the movie (it wasn't that funny, I thought), but then he told me to look out of the window. He pointed me in the right direction, we saw a woman in a very bulky white jacket, with a hood up and around her head. I didn't think it was that cold, either, but whatever. The jacket was very long, but seemed to end around calf-length and the woman's hands were in her pockets so it loked like she didn't have arms. She even seemed to waddle as she turned to face a different direction. If you haven't gotten it yet, as I hadn't, click the spoiler-cut for three more, very helpful, words that Phill said once I saw her. ( How on EARTH is this a spoiler, Venus?! )
After that, we were back home and gaming. I tried to write some, but nothing doing. I've been distracted the past two days by games instead. Yay, Winter-een-mas. And as I was trying to prove a point on something else, I accidentally saved over a file I shouldn't have saved over and have to replay a good chunk of Ocarina of Time, too. Oh, DARN.
And now I'll probably go get something to eat. I love days off, but it doesn't feel like a Sunday. D:
