Tonight was my first venture out to Barcade. It's exactly what you think it is: beer and video games. :D It's a great combination.
I went with Alex and Other Alex; we met up at Jamaica station just after eleven. Alex had to close at work but immediately jumped on the train from Mass Pk. Anyway, we hopped on the subway, and got there just after midnight. It was just the three of us, so we didn't stay for very long.
I grabbed a beer and then went to Centipede, which I used to be AWESOME at when I was younger. Now, not so much. But I also gave Tetris a try, and I'm still pretty sharp at that. I gave Gauntlet a try, alongside Alex, and watched him play Super Ghosts and Goblins. I watched Other Alex get the new high score in Frogger, and Alex scored fifth on.... something. There were all sorts of games aside of those: Dig Dug, Marble Madness, Galaga, Asteroids, and Super Mario Bros., just to name a few.
Somewhere along the way, I got carded. Everyone gets carded at the door, but I got carded again. The dude thought I was eleven. .______.
At two, we decided to leave, but Other Alex and I were hungry, and so Alex went along in search of food. We found a deli not too far away with pretty good sandwiches; Other Alex's, with its portobelloy goodness, was especially nummyful.
After sandwiches, it was time to go home, so back into the subway we went at three o'clock. It took us just over an hour to get back to Jamaica station. Along the way, people doing track work scared the bajeezus out of Alex, and then the two of us occupied ourselves not with conversation, but with a math game, while Other Alex nodded off.
At Jamaica station, we discovered that while my train was in about twenty minutes, the Alexes' train wasn't for another HOUR and twenty minutes. But lo, another Hempstead train left at the same time, so I decided to keep them company. Other Alex found the most comfortable spot of floor that he could, and Alex recounted the time he went mountain climbing in Vermont.
Just before five-thirty, we parted ways, and I arrived home safe and sound with the dawn. An hour later -- an HOUR -- I'm still awake, and the sun is coming in through my window. I think I might stay up a little longer to enjoy it, or at least finish this stretch of FF8. XD
Stef invited me back to Barcade tonight. While I would love to go, I think I'm going to be too tired -- especially if I stay up any longer -- and it was pretty noisy and crowded in there. While I'm not afraid of that sort of thing, I avoid crowds if I can because I don't like people in general, especially when people have drinks in their hands. Then again, it was Friday. I suppose to people who go out and do things on a regular basis that means something.
Despite the crowd and the noise, it was a lot of fun, and my only regret is leaving with four dollars in quarters. NEXT TIME! But not tonight; it takes too long, and I'm just too tired. D:
And next time, Seto will be with us. :D
