I got to Civil Court at 8:25 this morning. Whatever was going on started at precisely 8:30, which was cool and appreciated. Nice to know some things would go off without a hitch. The next half hour was spent following instructions on filling out the juror summons and junk. Couldn't we have been instructed to do that over the phone so we could get a half hour more of sleep this morning? Really.

An hour was spent on more propaganda instructions. Around ten, the court officer put a movie on the television to entertain us. I would have rather it stayed on the news. It's much easier to read when the news is on in the background. I was squirmy -- probably because I hadn't head breakfast, and goodness knows I can't sit in one place too long and OH YEAH, I'm serving jury duty -- but I managed to fall asleep... only to be woken a few minutes later by a set of names being called. Mine wasn't even one of them.

My name did get called, though, around noon, in the fourth set of eleven. This is my second time serving jury duty, but the first time my name's been called, so I got to do something new. I woke up a little bit. I was herded into a room with twenty other people and the plaintiff's lawyer -- who looked a LOT like my eighth grade English teacher -- talked at us forever. And he contradicted himself a few times. I was no longer able to take him seriously.

That went on for an hour, in which only three prospective jurors were interviewed, and then we broke for lunch. Afterwards, they were all sent back down to the holding cell waiting room, and six more were interviewed. Four were chosen, three more interviewed, and then it was four o'clock and the rest of us were told to go home and come back Thursday morning.

This is good because it means I can go to REAL work tomorrow, but bad because I a) missed a day of sewing and b) would much rather work the orientation on Thursday than the regular shift tomorrow. Oh well. At least I can go shopping with Esmeralda tomorrow. Time to get those buttons and shoulder pads and pick up extra fabric (for the pants and Gakuen, I don't care if the plaid was changed; I like the one I have!).

And then I got rained on coming home. :| I'm going to take a nap now, and do that sleeping I didn't do this morning.
