Probably not going back to Comic Con.
Oct. 14th, 2012 01:15 amTo summarize:
•no lounge for the speakers this year. This is the least of my concern, but it did become very difficult to find a relatively quiet place where we wouldn't bother people to do a last-minute practice on Friday. Of course, that also meant that, since we didn't have any semi-private area, there was no place to stash our stuff so we had to use the coat check (which is $3 per item), and we had to wait on line for a bathroom stall so we could change. I didn't want to be in uniform all day and risk getting it dirty and sweaty before the show, but we didn't have much of a choice.
•no separate staff bathroom. I'm not staff, so this shouldn't annoy me so much, but I felt offended for other people. See, we asked about the speaker lounge, and a woman at information told us. We sighed, sucked it up, changed in the bathroom, and while we were adjusting the final touches on our dresses outside the bathroom, the same woman came and stood on the bathroom line. Seriously? She has work to do, and this is making it harder for her and the people who need to ask her things. That's. Fucking. DUMB.
•they cut our show short. This is the real personal one. Long story short, they thought our show was supposed to start at 7:30 instead of 7:45, and so they cut us off at 8:30 instead of 8:45. We had to cut four songs from the set (Bana Na Rama's Tonari no Banana, our Bacchikoi, Cruel Angel's Thesis and Madayade) and keep intros and explanations short. The rest of the show went well, but I really didn't appreciate being rushed at all, especially not when the next group was meant to start at 9:00 and didn't until 9:15. We could have finished our shit, gone a little extra AND had time to spare. :|
I also got sick yesterday. I must have eaten too much and then had a real bad case of pre-performance jitters (which I always get, but I usually kick back some water and I'm fine), but I was actually crying and ran through half the Javits Center looking for a relatively empty bathroom so as not to subject too many people to whatever unpleasant noises I made. And then I couldn't brush my teeth, but I had some gum to chew... which I nearly choked on about four times during the first set.
•Because NYCC isn't even trying to pretend it has anything to do with or ever even heard of the mythical New York Anime Festival, what little anime shit there is is scattered throughout the con center. That dealer's hall is HUGE and I don't feel like spending literally hours in there on the off chance I might find something that I could possibly, maybe, one day buy. So if I'm not here for the stuff and I can hang out with people whenever, and my badge doesn't get me anything except the oh-so-grand honor of performing at Comic Con (and not even performing everything we were meant to), why am I even here?
There were more things, but I'm just so fed up with all of it, I can't even write them out because I'll get unnecessarily angry again.
The sleepover's over: Karin and Deanna only stayed the one night, and everyone lugged their suitcases with them on the LIRR early this afternoon. Can't say I blame them: this con fucking blows hard. I mean, I'm sure it's great for people who are interested in Western comics and stuff -- Guillermo and Chris said they were having a great time -- but that's not me.
But then, I've collected a total of $28.08 for UNICEF at this con (and that was a small group today: there will be a bigger one tomorrow, I hear!), so I guess that's all right.
