AnimeNEXT Day Two!

But to hear about that, you've got to wade through all the other junk first. :3
Things I forgot to mention yesterday: we were invited to Zenkaikon, which is in October. We'll have to see about it, of course, and I haven't looked into details yet. But I will. And I thought it was really amusing that the first thing I saw in the Dealer's Room yesterday was Sephiroth shopping for katanas. I know I hate that game, but it made me giggle.
So after I posted last night, I tacked my waistwrap and went to bed. I got seven hours of sleep and it felt SO GOOD when I woke up this morning! Of course, I was excited, so I got dressed right away. Toph came out GREAT, and when I have more time (i.e., later Sunday evening or maybe Monday), I'll post all the pictures from this weekend so you guys can see. :D So, yeah, Toph looked amazing, despite various pieces not being finished. My hair was FANTASTIC, though, and I fell in love with it because it was so big and round and perfect! I read and dozed off a bit on the train. I actually got into a car with some children on the off-chance that they'd recognize me. Maybe they were just too scared to say something. XD
So Mongoose called me while I was on my way over, and she was at AMVs with Shannon; Once I got to the con, I decided to sit with them for a bit. There were some panels I wanted to go to between ten-thirty and eleven, but I never made it because, on my way there, Abi stopped me!
Her haircut is SO cute.
But yeah, I was excited to see her, and she was only sticking around for a few minutes in plainclothes. Doctors don't know what's wrong with her yet. Even though she's feeling better, she still can't stand for long stretches; she had to sit on the ground while we were chatting. I hung around because she told me that Laura had just called her; Theresa was parking on the lot, so they were about two steps away.
Theresa and Laura as Zuko and ... Zuko ... were pretty cool. And Erica as not just Katara but Katara Blaine was even better. I HAVE A COSPLAYER.
First order of business was breakfast. I had already had something to eat, so I just hung out with everyone, and we did a bit of cosplay rehearsal outside before actual cosplay rehearsal at twelve-thirty. Cosplay rehearsal went fairly well, if a little long. There were some amazing skits there, and every one seemed like there was some sort of dancing. But that's okay because ours had a play on words! HAW HAW!
Abby came by as FireNation!Suki, and tagged along. It worked out well because Laura's costume and mine were a bit broken, and Abby was able to help us fix them at her hotel room. I, in turn, did a good deed by tying someone's tie. :D So we fixed our costumes and I tried on EarthKingdom!Toph to make sure it fit. I figured it would have, since Abby and I are the same size, and most of it did. She's a LIFESAVER.
We tried to go to the voice acting panel for Erica, but we could just NOT tolerate the disgusting atmosphere of the basement of the convention center (read: the parking lot!). It was poorly ventilated and smelled all musty, and was just gross in general. We didn't stay long, but I stopped by Mookie's table and picked up my copy of the Storm of Souls, which I started reading on the way home. Best. Dominic Deegan arc. Ever.
Pretty sure that after that, we went back outside, heard that Laura's sister was near the Holiday Inn, so we wanted to say hi, but we couldn't find her. We wound up taking a break on the lawn under some trees, and did a little bit of musicless dansu as well as all our crazy Avatar pictures. It was only us because there were few other Avatar cosplayers at the convention AT ALL, and the five of us were by far the largest group. There were only other Kataras and Zukos around; one Ty Lee, one Kyoshi, no Tophs, or Sokkas, much to Abby's and my dismay. People did appreciate the costumes, though.
Let's see... there was the Para Para Workshop panel at five, and we all wanted to head to that for sure! We had time, since we could be at the masquerade no later than six-fifteen. The Para Para Workshop was good for the dances, but not so much the teaching. There were three dances taught in an hour, so the panelists went through them really fast; I barely remembered one set of moves when I learned the next right on top of it. I had to stop after a while, because I couldn't remember anything anymore, and it's all the same shit anyway. XD I did want to get their names, or at least the names of the songs, but I forgot that I had to change.
I got something to eat first, and grabbed a soda for Laura and Erica to split; they were starting to crash, so I suggested it. I got food for myself because I was just starting to feel hungry, and I knew I wasn't going to get another chance to eat. Somewhere in there, Laura and Erica realized that they hadn't eaten since that morning. Probably why they were tired. DUR DUR DURRRR
So, the masquerade. There were so many good acts that I can't begin to describe them all, and the videos'll all be up on YouTube later anyway, so I'm not going to bother. I have to say, though, that I was very surprised by the loud cheering when "Avatar: The Last Airbender" was announced! Makes me wonder why there WEREN'T any other cosplayers. XD We each made minor slip-ups, but from what I heard from Amanda, the pictosnark wasn't too harsh for us. Hurray!
Laura, Erica, and Josephine left for Artists' Alley to say hi to Amanda and Stefanie and keep them company. I wanted to stay behind because I wanted to know who won, in what I realized was the first masquerade I'd ever attended where NOBODY SUCKED. There was not ONE shitty act in the entire thing, if you'll believe it!
The Judges' Awards were first. One was for "awesome dance," and I thought to myself, "Gee, that could be anybody!" and while I was rolling my eyes, the guy was talking, but when he was done, all I heard was "Avatar."
OH SHIT THAT'S ME! I grabbed Appa and the ichiP! sign as quickly as I could and scrambled up onto the stage. I thought I was going to get more than slight recognition, but I took a bow. More importantly, I had the sign with me, so SOMEONE is going to wonder what the hell ichiP! is and look it up. Yay. :D So our skit is officially award-winning (asterisk), which means we HAVE to do the real one now. See, ichiP! is not only about anime dansu, but stupid Avatar skits as well. XD
BY THE WAY the skit's already been posted!
The end of the awards was pretty anti-climactic. "Okay, here's best in show. ... :::walk off stage.:::" They could have at LEAST said "good night," or "see you next year," or something to say that that was it. :::rolls eyes::: So I got the hell out of Dodge. I got stopped by Dan, though, who was filming, and loved the skit, and some people who wanted pictures.
When I called Erica to find out where everyone had gone, I discovered it was only five to ten. Wait, whoa, hold on. A masquerade that didn't suck AND ended on time? What the shit is this?! On my way to Burger King, I saw a few people staring at my sign, so I passed off a business card. :::shameless::: When I caught up with the gaang, I let them know of our supreme awesomeness. :D They seemed happy. Laura gave me her fries because I wasn't about to wait online, and I beed out at ten-thirty.
Tomorrow! ... today. Link! And maybe dansu, haha.
Happy birthday, sweetheart. I love you so much.

Date: 2008-06-23 03:06 am (UTC)Seriously, I'm still amazed that people are blown away by brown people cosplaying not-brown characters. It's not like we've got much selection, assholes. :/ The best part is that I met those people today; they were brown people. WTF?!
