I found myself at another Mets game tonight. My mom popped up around ten after four, announcing that my dad had scored some tickets and that he was taking her. ;-; And then, suddenly, my mom said it was okay for me to go in her stead. I tried to get out of it, because I felt bad, but she insisted. FINE, I'll go to the stupid game. Grumble.
Tonight's seats were a far cry from last week's; whereas last week I was right behind home plate (and up two levels), tonight I was in FAIR territory in right field, almost as high up as you could go. As I told Phill, when he asked if I was in Shea, "Barely. A few feet to the right and I'd be in Citi Field instead." Dad and I were so far out that we couldn't see the main scoreboard, nor could we see a portion of right field. BUT! We were able to very clearly see Pelfrey taking warmup tosses in the bullpen.
Again, in the first inning, the Mets tore the game open. Reyes singled and stole second; Wright drew a walk, and Delgado crushed the ball the other way for a homerun. From where I was sitting -- and my dad agreed with me on this -- the ball looked as though it went foul, so I couldn't understand why everyone was cheering. I checked with the umpire, who was making circles in the air with his finger. Okay, so I guess it was a homerun. I'll take it!
Pelfrey let a couple of hits go for the next few innings. Whereas last week he was pretty good, tonight he was on POINT.
In the sixth inning, I idly commented how Beltran and Church ("Carlos" and "Ryan") were due for hits, and they quickly punched out singles for me. Hmmm. Hey, Dan (Murphy), you're due for a hit, too. A single would be nice. He didn't single, but a sac fly was just as good for bringing Beltran in.
In the seventh, Reyes drew a walk, and Wright was given the intentional with two outs to get to Delgado. Delgado had grounded to first and flied to right in his last two at-bats, but he must've heard me when I said "make 'em pay [for walking Wright]"; he hit ANOTHER three-run job, this time to dead center field.
In the eighth, Church started off with a single, Pelfrey, to much cheering, drew a walk of his own, and Reyes brought them around on a triple to right (had he had another at-bat, Reyes would have had a chance for a natural cycle).
Again, there was much cheering for Pelfrey as he took the mound in the ninth, and more when he got the first out on a comebacker. The pinch hitter decided to double, though, and Erstad singled, which brought Jerry out to the mound. The crowd begged that Pelfrey stay in, and he did. While the Mets gave up a run on a fielder's choice to Delgado (it was hit right at him, and he dove, so his only play was at first), Tejada just as quickly grounded to third to end the game, giving Pelfrey is second career complete game, back to back with the first.
The final was 9-1 (Phillies were winning in the fifth when I checked), Delgado and Pelfrey were players of the game. Dad left in the eighth, but I caught a ride home with Phill. I love this team and I LOVE THIS GAME. ♥
P.S. If someone could lend me about $3400, I'd appreciate it. That's the going rate for four Shea seats. :D
