But first, mundane work stuff.

I got my $2.61 back! Saturday morning, I don't know if I mentioned it, I paid for a $2.39 combo at Dunkin' Donuts with a five and forgot my change. I went back that night and they wouldn't give it to me. I went back this morning, abandoning all hope, and it was no problem for them to give me my money whatsoever. I'd've told them to keep it and just give me another muffin and coffee, but I was already late (I'd forgotten my cell phone, so I had to turn back on my walk to the bus stop. Of course, the bus didn't come on time, but TWO busses came simultaneously, later. :::roll:::).

Poor Evie. She's not getting what she wants in her new position. She's reduced to a "part-time" lead, which means she averages thirty-five hours a week, at her current pay rate of $7.25. In effect, she's working the same amount of hours, with more responsibility, but not getting paid for it. Karen Flores said she might Argue for getting Evie $8.50-$9.25/hr, which would be great, but in the meantime, it's not happening.

Seven twenty-five is what I'm looking at if I stay at Sanrio past January seventh. A whole twenty-five cents. JOY.[/blatant sarcasm] Still, it's better than nothing. Quarters DO add up, after all.

A very gay guy walked into the store and asked for a Chococat plushie. No big deal; I went and got it for him. When I came back, his transgender/transexual/transvestite/whatever-it-was friend was standing next to him and I nearly dropped the plushie in surprise. I get nervous around such people because I don't know whether to call them "sir" or "ma'am", though I think the latter, and because there are so many similar terms that I don't know which is which and what the person in front of me was. SIGH. I feel awful asking because they must get it so often, and I know I'm sick of the question I get asked most often, "How much is this?" "¿Hablas español?"

That was about it; I had the morning shift so I could hightail it to Carnegie. Well, not hightail it, because the performance started at 7:30. I called Warky to see if he'd gotten my e-mail and stuff, and even though he was relatively nearby in Staten Island, he couldn't go; he only had street clothes and he thought a ticket would be sent to him by mail. Sigh. So off I went, alone.

I got to 57th St. at six, a whole hour before I planned to go inside, so I sat and knitted (there was a big group of tourists. Tourists are funny because they don't know how to use MetroCards). When I did go inside, getting my ticket was no problem, and I went right to my seat. Eventually, an older couple came and sat next to me. I was going to ask if they were Mike's parents, but I decided against it because I figured they'd a) look like Mike and b) not be geriatric. I mean, my dad's sixty-eight, but my MOM isn't. >.o Okay, so maybe they wouldn't be sitting next to me, though I looked at the empty seat on my other side, missing Warky, until someone sat in it. WTF.

Strangers to my left, strangers to my right, strangers in front of me and behind. Where WAS everyone?

So the concert began. It was one of those charity concerts for people that die of an illness nad have foundations named after them by the distraught family. :::rolls eyes::: I did a lot of polite clapping. Augh. So, highlights: Tony Danza's unimpressive singing and tap dancing (no, I'm serious), Freddy Roman going on about male enhancement drugs, and a wonderful tenor (? Help, I'm not a singer), singing the prologue of Pagliacci. We played the prologue of Pagliacci in Wind Ensemble once, and it was spectacular. Of course, the New York Pops were spectacular, too. I wish I were that talented a musician. :::cry:::

My mom called halfway through Freddy Roman, wondering where I was, even though I told her that I was going to be late right before I left for work. No one believes me when I say the woman is an IDIOT but.... So I was as quiet as I could be with her.

Di was on after, and she looked amazing. She played amazingly, as well: Rhapsody in Blue. :::melt::: From my seat, I couldn't see much, save for the top of her head bobbing up and down and her foot on the pedal, but I enjoyed what I heard.

After Di was intermission, so I decided to call Warky and let him know what he'd missed. The old crone two seats down from me was going out into the aisle, and as she passed me she hissed, "We don't use cell phones in Carnegie Hall." I pretended not to hear her, I mean -- hello! -- I was on the phone? LOL But when she came back, I was ready.

"Excuse me, ma'am?" She turned around in her seat. "Perhaps we (and I pointed to her) don't use cell phones here, but we (and I pointed to myself) do as we please, and maybe if we (her) kept our noses out of our (me) business, then we (her again) would have more hair on our heads. Good night."

Her hair was thinning a LOT. But seriously, she shouldn't have been in my business. There could have been some sort of emergency; she didn't know who I was talking to. Ew, I hate snotty people.

But I felt good about the whole thing, especially since I didn't swear once. ^_^! I felt bad, however, that I didn't get to see Di or Mike. ;-;

Went home and got caught in the rain. My overcoat is wonderful; it kept my upper body completely dry. Alas, my shoes were not fortunate enough to have such protection. They're drying by the radiator. Tomorrow, I start my new bank account. HURRAY.

Edit: 22/11/05, 1:11 -- I just got a phone call from Di and Mike, thanking me for my attendance tonight. They're so sweet; I love them. <3 :::changes mood to something happier:::

Haha, that would have been awesome to listen to. I probably would have went off to, but not said anything as funny as that. SOunds like you had fun, though it probably would have been better if you had a bunch of people you knew there to. And someone taking Warky's seat?? There would have been some ass-kicking, even if he couldn't attend. That's just rude.
